Chalazion / Styes
Información
Chalazions and styes are common eyelid conditions that can cause discomfort and affect eye health. A stye is an acute inflammation of the sebaceous glands on the edge of the eyelid, usually caused by a bacterial infection. It manifests as a red, painful lump that may be accompanied by swelling and tenderness.
On the other hand, a chalazion is a painless bump caused by the obstruction of a sebaceous gland in the eyelid. Unlike a stye, a chalazion tends to be larger and develop inside the eyelid. Although initially it may be painful, over time it becomes painless but persistent.
In both cases, if the condition does not resolve within a few weeks with medical treatment and care, surgery is recommended to completely remove the lesion's capsule.
